Bamboo Flooring, General

If you are interested in changing up the flooring in your home, there are a wide range of options to choose from. Those who want to have a hard wood floor still have a few options in which to narrow down to find the right match to your preferences and your home decor. If you are looking for a solid, durable and beautiful hard flooring product, bamboo may be what you need. If you haven't thought about bamboo before, here are some bamboo flooring facts you will want to consider. Durability

In terms of standing up to common wear and tear of any floor type, high quality bamboo flooring has great durability. Solid bamboo flooring is one of the hardest types of wood flooring current on the market. While this doesn't prevent all types of damage, it can withstand more foot traffic than softer types of wood. To keep bamboo floors looking great, proper care should always be taken, just as you would with any other hardwood floor types. You should choose a quality finish product to help prevent scratches and also lay down area rugs under furniture or on high traffic areas of the home.

Sustainability

Some homeowners are reluctant to choose a product made from bamboo because they think the source in not sustainable. Bamboo is a sustainable resource that grows quickly. It only takes five to seven years to grow to full strength for use in this type of product, while hardwood trees will take an average of sixty years to mature to the same strength. It should also be noted that the specific type of bamboo use for flooring is not a species that pandas eat.

Water Resistance

Bamboo can also stand up to water and other liquids. Although large amounts of water or colored liquids can quickly damage any hardwood flooring, bamboo is a little more resistant to water damage. Even so, spills must be cleaned up quickly to prevent damage.

These are just some of the facts about bamboo that you will want to consider when you are changing the flooring in your home. Bamboo can be a great option for longevity and durability, as long as proper can is taken.
