It happens every time. You love your new home, but there’s something about those floors you don’t like. Not-to-worry. You’ll change them later. It nags away at you but you never find time to get around to it. Now is the time to put an end to that! Your feet deserve the best! So ditch those old carpets and ugly linoleum floors and find yourself something better.
Whatever your budget there are plenty of options out there. We’ll show you some budget ideas and one or two crazy-expensive ones for fun.
Have you tried pulling up the carpet?
You never know what’s hiding under that boring living room carpet. In a lot of cases, you might find a beautiful wooden floor hidden away. It became popular to cover wood with
carpet in the 80s (what were they thinking?) so there may just be a beautiful hardwood floor under there. It might take a little work to polish it up, but with a bit of gloss and some hard-work it’ll look stunning. And you’ll save a small fortune.
No luck? Oh well, you can always install new hardwood floors…
It doesn’t have to be as expensive as you think. You can get hold of reclaimed or recycled hardwood for a fairly reasonable price and have it fitted by a professional. There are other options such as cork or bamboo. Cork is soft and durable with a light, modern finish. It is one of many ways to
lighten up a kitchen. It’s also perfect for a stylish bedroom bedroom.
Bamboo is a great alternative too. There are
pros and cons of bamboo flooring but it can add a real natural warmth to your home. It’s eco-friendly as well because bamboo replenishes so much faster than trees.
Concrete
This isn’t as weird as it sound, we promise… There is a bit of a trend in restaurants and cool offices to use concrete as flooring. It’s cheap and it can be painted and decorated easily. If you’ve got a flair for beautiful design you could paint your own floor!
Vinyl or Carpet Tiles
These have a nostalgic quality. They were popular in decades past but can still look great in your home with the right design. They are cheap and easily cleanable. The carpet tiles especially as they can be lifted and washed individually.
Glass flooring
We’re moving up the budget scale now. The truly decadent of you out there may fancy installing glass panel flooring in your bathroom. It can be frosted or look down over a lower floor if you like a little thrill with your morning shower.
Leather flooring
We didn’t lose you with glass flooring? Oh good. Well, how do you feel about leather floors?
Yes, they exist. You can choose anything from crocodile leather to rattlesnake leather, apparently. I’m sure it’s very comfortable, but not for us, thanks. But, if you like the idea and have plenty of cash, a snake floor is all yours!
