How To Manage When Your Kids Are Wrecking Your Dream Home

Having a family is wonderful. The kids make you laugh, make you cry, and make your wallet empty quicker than ever before. Children also make a house a home. Before you had the children, your home was a different place. Each room was used for different things. Now the kids are here, the home is a hive of activity and noise and fun. Perhaps your home isn’t as pristine as it was, or as immaculately tidy. But your family home is still where your heart is, and you want to fill it with all of your most treasured possessions.

Sharing your home with children means you are never bored for something to do. Kids keep you on the go all day every day. Perhaps you had a few projects for your home in mind before they came along. They have probably been put on the back burner while you prioritize the kids. The trouble is, once you have the bug for home improvement, you can’t let it go. You will always want to flex your creative muscles. There may be a hundred ideas in your mind that just won’t quit.

With all the family under one roof, the inevitable will happen. Your treasured ornaments and possessions and children do not mix. Breakages and spills occur very frequently once kids find their feet. Sadly some of your favorite items may be destroyed beyond repair. Others may live for another day thanks to a hot glue gun from somewhere like Glue Guns Direct. If you find you are spending more and more time trying to salvage broken vases and photo frames, have a think about recycling the parts instead.

For items that we find ourselves grieving over, throwing them in the trash might be just too hard. Instead, collect the broken parts, breaking them down into smaller pieces if necessary. Over time, you may be able to collect enough parts to create a mosaic. Choose an image or a pattern that means as much to as the broken items used to. If your dog was the destructive force, it might be fitting to create a mosaic in her honor. Some people like to decorate a memories box in this way. Bits and pieces from your daughter’s baby years could be popped into the box then covered with the pieces for the mosaic.

Sometimes kids like to have a go at pulling down your wallpaper too. Use a quick fix glue to repair it as best you can. It will save you having to decorate immediately. Cover up with wall hangings or furniture until you are ready to replace it. Children are quite good at spilling food and other unpleasant items onto carpet. Use a good carpet wash to remove most of the stains. Anything left might be unnoticeable by changing the light source on it. Some spills have odors you cannot remove. If this is the case, cut the damaged part out and place a rug on top to hide it. When you are ready to change the flooring, try hardwood floors instead.
