Home Improvement

Bathroom additions are very common for many reasons. Bathroom additions not only add function and usability to a home, but they also can help increase the value of the home. These factors make bathroom additions one of the most common home improvements that people take on.

Today, more home owners are taking on the DIY approach to home improvements. This can save them a lot of money and hassle, but it can also create big problems for inexperienced home owners. Here are six tips for adding a bathroom to any home for a seamless and affordable home improvement project.

Evaluate the home

Adding a bathroom will be a different process for every home. Home owners will need to determine where the bathroom should go, not just based on where it will be ideal for them to use, but also where it will be easiest to connect to plumbing and electricity. This may require the help of a professional to set up initial plumbing and electrical leads.

Make it match the rest of the home

No one wants to have a home addition that looks obvious and miss-matched. It is important for home owners to make sure that the new bathroom matches the rest of the home as much as possible. This could mean using similar materials, paint colors and other design elements to make the addition seamless and beautiful.

Determine the costs

There are a lot of expenses that can add up fast when installing a new bathroom. Home owners need to be careful to establish a budget right away to ensure that they can afford every item they install in their home addition. This should include not only fixtures and décor, but also potential installation fees and inspections.

Think of the bathroom’s function

The bathroom’s function may seem simple to define, but this will vary a little from family to family. Everyone will have different needs for their additional bathroom, and should keep those needs in mind during construction. For example, a master bathroom addition will have different requirements than a guest bathroom addition.

Add extra storage

Storage is an essential item for any bathroom. Many home owners forget about the hallway closets or other storage units that they use for their other bathroom essentials. When adding a new bathroom, it is important to also accommodate for the storage needs of that space. Adding a closet inside the room or extra space underneath the vanity will usually suffice.

Add on some of the finest luxuries

There are a lot of little luxuries that anyone can add on to make their life a lot easier. Everyone can find a few extras to add onto their bathroom that will give them some special treatment every day. Some of these items might include heated floors, two sinks with extra counter space, or even a TV. Home owners can find Direct TV in Florida to make their ideal luxury bathroom addition a reality.
