Rejuvenating a bathroom costs big bucks, right? Wrong! Use these finance friendly tips to update your bathroom, and it will look as good as new.

1. Deal with mold and mildew

The grout in your bathroom requires regular maintenance. If you have a black lining of mold and mildew on the grout around your shower or bath; maintenance is overdue! You’ll be amazed at the difference clean grout makes to the appearance of your bathroom. The first thing to do is check whether the grout is still intact. If it’s not, you’ll need to regrout the whole area or just fix the areas that are cracked or loose. If it’s still in place, a deep clean will do the trick. Use a bleach spray specially designed to remove bathroom mold and mildew. Alternatively, use a non-toxic method.

2. Clean and paint walls

The combination of dust and steam in bathrooms creates a film of dirt on the walls. You can boost the appearance of your bathroom by giving your walls a clean using a mild detergent, warm water, a cloth and a bit of elbow grease! Perhaps your bathroom walls are in much need of a fresh coat of paint? Or, your bathroom may improve with a new color on its walls. If you have a dull bathroom, consider adding a vivid color like orange or yellow for a fresh, bright appearance. While you're at it, consider whether your cabinets could also do with a lick of paint.

3. Make sure everything works properly

Your bathroom can seem old and faulty when it’s elements don’t function as they should. Does your sink drain slowly? Do you have any leaks? Is the toilet flush dodgy? Dealing with all the issues in your bathroom will improve matters considerably. However, for complicated jobs, you should seek professional services from a plumbing contractor. There are reputable plumbing services available throughout the country. If you need to find a quality plumbing contractor in McKinney, Tx, for example, do a localized search online or in the yellow pages.

4. Accessorize your bathroom

You’ve fixed the problems in your bathroom, dealt with mold and mildew and spruced up the walls, now comes the fun bit! Accessorize your bathroom with some beautiful essentials like lighting, towels, soap dishes, etc. As well as some other interesting and elegant items such as ornaments, flowers, and candles. You could pick a theme in order to help you select your accessorize. This could be anything from nautical to vintage charm. Mirrors make an excellent addition to any bathroom and are very effective at making the area look larger. Also, consider the storage options in your bathroom. If you are short on space, wall-mounted shelves and cupboards will be practical. Have a look around for suitable bathroom cabinets and shelves in order to find the right options for your space.

5. Enjoy your updated bathroom

Now you have a clean, fresh and beautiful bathroom. Give yourself an extra pat on the back for achieving all this on a shoestring. Enjoy!
