Robberies happen all the time with most happening during the holiday season or during the summer months. The reason the rise in burglaries occur during these times of the year is that robbers know that your mind is elsewhere. You are planning on taking a family vacation, visiting family in another state, or just enjoying a few nights away from home. Your mind is more than likely on your itinerary, what gifts to buy and what to pack, instead of securing your home while you are away. In Montreal, like so many other places across the nation, robbers are looking for easy pickings. This means that you must ensure your home is not one that will be singled out to be robbed.

We all love getting on getting on our favorite social media outlet such as Facebook and letting our family and friends be involved in our lives as events happen. The main problem with that is that robbers often pay attention to these posts and learn that you are not going to be home. Instead of posting that you are going out of town and photos of the entire journey, it is best to only let family and friends know you are going out of town and wait until you are home to post the vacation photos. Most robberies are actually done by someone in your own neighborhood so if they know you are gone; it will be very easy to pick your home as their next victim.

Another ways home are chosen by thieves is that the home looks empty. There are no lights on, the mail or newspapers are piling up, if there is snow there are no tire tracks to show family as driven into the garage or out of the garage. The best way to ensure your home looks like someone is there is to ask a friend to get your mail, shovel your driveway, and leave on lights. Also stop the mail and newspaper from being delivered or ask that someone retrieve them daily.

Watch your trash. When you buy large ticket items and leave the boxes on the curb to be picked up by the garbage truck, thieves see these boxes and would love to have these items. Always cut up the boxes and place them in garbage bags. This way no one will know that you purchased a new big screen or computer. Another way to help protect your home is to upgrade your locks on your windows and doors. Most families have good deadbolts on their front and back doors but they often forget about ensuring the locks on the windows are up to date and are not easy to pick. To learn more about advancements in locks for your home visit serrurier Montreal centre ville.
