Does your workplace no longer support the needs of your business? Have you grown or expanded above and beyond what your current premises can offer?
If you aren’t too wrapped in moving to a whole new location, we are here to show you how a commercial office fitout can provide you with the workplace of your dreams for a more affordable cost. We are also here to share some tips that will help to reduce the overall costs of the fitout.
1. Stay in your current premises
This should always be the first option considered, as it might be possible to tweak and refurbish the space (such as the addition of new lighting, desks, carpet, improved air conditioning or an IT upgrade) without actually going anywhere. It is true that you might need to do the fitout in stages and that it might take a little longer to be completed, but the savings associated with staying put can be quite substantial.
2. Find recently refurbished premises
If there is no way you can remain in your current office, the next option to consider is finding one that has been recently refurbished (either partially or fully) and that meets your needs as best as possible. Whilst this sounds like a pretty good idea, however, it is important to remember that there will always be a catch – these sorts of premises might have higher rent, reduced lease incentives or simply won’t meet your needs.
3. Visit a one-stop-shop company
If you have made the decision to undertake a commercial office fitout, you might like to consider finding a company who will offer you a package deal (everything from the design through to execution) rather than trying to find a whole bunch of contractors at each stage yourself. Many people have found this to be quite cost-effective and even quick, ensuring that you get the workplace of your dreams for a great price.
4. Don’t put walls up – open plan
In recent years, the trend has been to take down the walls of your office in favour of a more open plan layout. This can actually help you to reduce the costs of a fitout, as it means that there won’t be as many building works to complete. If walls are required, carefully consider their placement – having separate spaces sharing a particular wall can also help you to reduce the overall costs of the project.
5. Adapt and reuse wherever possible
It is always best to make the most of what you have. By reusing furniture and other components, you will actually save yourself a significant amount of money. Even if some refurbishment is required to make the furniture better suited to your needs, you will find that this is much more affordable than purchasing new pieces outright. A workstation might cost you $1500 new for example, but only $1000 to refurbish.
Whether you have already made the decision to refurbish or you aren’t quite sure how you’re going to proceed, we hope that the above tips are useful in reducing the costs of your
commercial office fitout. We always recommend staying in your current premises for as long as possible – not only will this eliminate the costs associated with moving, it will be less hassle on your staff and business as a whole. Happy fitouting!
