One of the main reasons that aluminium pool fencing is so popular is that it requires very little upkeep. Many homeowners choose to simply install and forget with the confidence that their fencing will remain strong and proud well into the future. With that being said, however, there are some quick and easy steps that you can take to ensure that your aluminium panels always look their best. We have provided some of these hints and tips below.
Maintaining the finish
Part of what makes aluminium fencing relatively maintenance free is the fact that it has been powder coated. This finish provides the panels with tough protection that requires little to no upkeep. If you live in a heavily industrial, coastal or dusty climate, however, the surface will benefit from some periodic cleaning. The same goes for climates that experience low rainfall (as this often provides natural cleaning).
Spray with the hose
The best way to clean your fencing is by giving it a good spray with the garden hose. We have found that this will remove most dirt, dust and residue without issue. If you live in a coastal climate, this will also remove most of the abrasive salt from the air that can accumulate on the aluminium over time. The setting you have your hose on is not overly important, but a stream is more effective than a mist.
Use a detergent solution
If you notice more stubborn residue on your aluminium pool fencing, we recommend using a mild detergent and warm water solution. Simply dip a clean cloth into the solution and run it along the panels. Even a mild detergent will be capable of eating through tough grime, aided along by the warm water. Once you have finished cleaning the panels, ensure that you give them a thorough rinse with clean water.
Don’t use abrasive cleaners
When cleaning your aluminium fencing, it is important that you never use coarse sponges, brushes or solvents. These can scratch or even dissolve the power coating, which can lead to the panels being exposed to the elements. Whilst there are products available that proclaim their suitability for such finishes, we recommend erring on the side of caution and sticking with a mild detergent solution.
Brightening the finish
Some homeowners may notice that the brightness of their pool fencing dulls over time. Whilst this is completely normal (and a result of natural weathering), it is understandable that you want the aluminium to look its best for as long as possible. To brighten the powder coat, rub some car wax along the panels. This will remove the chalky oxidisation that they have developed and will help to protect them against future weathering.
At the end of the day, your
aluminium pool fencing is relatively maintenance free – the above tips and hints really only apply for those homeowners who want their panels to look brand new for as long as possible. Whilst we do recommend giving your fencing a good clean every year or so, we want to stress that your aluminium can still look good without such measures. If you have decided to maintain your panels, you can rest assured it will be quite simple.
